Seminole Tribe of Florida

The Seminole Tribe of Florida is a federally recognized Native American tribe, and the only tribe in America that never signed a peace treaty. With a rich history rooted in the southeastern United States, it is a sovereign government with an elected Tribal Council of five members and several reservations across the state of Florida, including in Hollywood, Big Cypress, and Brighton.

Economically, the Seminole Tribe is renowned for its role in developing Native American gaming. It opened the first high-stakes bingo hall and casino in the United States in 1979. That facility was the forerunner of the Indian Gaming movement throughout North America. Their enterprises have expanded beyond gaming to include agriculture, tourism, and other ventures. In March 2007, the Tribe purchased Hard Rock International—the first acquisition of its kind by a Native American tribe.

Culturally, the Seminole Tribe of Florida maintains strong traditions in language, crafts, and ceremonies. The Tribe continues to work towards preserving their heritage while also embracing modern business and technology for their community's prosperity.

Headquartered in Hollywood, Florida, near Fort Lauderdale, the Tribe continues to innovate in its gaming businesses, as well as its other ventures. Analysts believe today’s Seminole Tribe of Florida operates one of the most profitable gaming enterprises in the world.
